Gulfstream operations sit at the top of business aviation. The operators who run G450s, G550s, G650s, and the G700 are running some of the most demanding operations in private aviation transcontinental and transoceanic routes, high-profile passengers, schedules that cannot absorb disruption. When a crew gap opens in a Gulfstream operation, the sourcing problem is specific and the standards are non-negotiable.

CrewBlast maintains one of the largest networks of Gulfstream-typed contract pilots in business aviation. These are professionals who hold current Gulfstream type ratings, are simulator-current on their specific variant, and have accumulated real-world operating experience on the platforms they fly not just the minimum hours required for legal currency.

Understanding Gulfstream Type Ratings

The FAA issues Gulfstream type ratings by aircraft certification group. A pilot holding a GIV type rating is qualified on the G-IV series. A pilot with a GV type rating covers the G-V, G350, G450 and G550. The GVII/GVIII rating covers the G500, G600, G700, and G800*.

Beyond the legal type rating, there is the avionics familiarity dimension. The Honeywell Primus suite in older G-IV aircraft is fundamentally different from the PlaneView avionics in the G550 and G650. When sourcing contract crew, ask for recent flight time on your specific aircraft model, not just on the type.

Simulator Currency Standards for Gulfstream Operations

Gulfstream's recommended recurrent training interval is every twelve months. Many operators running Part 135 charter on Gulfstream aircraft require contract crew to have completed simulator training within the preceding six months. A pilot whose last G650 sim session was 22 months ago holds a valid type rating but may not be the right choice for a critical transatlantic trip with high-profile passengers. Look at the simulator training date and provider CAE, FlightSafety International, and SimuFlite all offer Gulfstream-specific training.

International Experience for Gulfstream Operations

Gulfstream aircraft are the platforms of choice for transcontinental and transoceanic private aviation. The G650 and G700 connect the United States to Europe, the Middle East, and Asia with single-stop or nonstop routing. Contract pilots used for these operations need more than domestic currency SELCAL registration, HF radio proficiency, familiarity with the North Atlantic Track system, and oceanic flight planning procedures are all operational requirements.

For Gulfstream operations that include Middle East or European routing, the international crew sourcing page provides additional context on what crew experience is relevant for those specific markets.
